Charles Vögele Fashion Days Zurich: Closing Night Missoni F/W 2010

The last day of the fashion days wasn’t all that exciting: two fashion shows with a music act in the end whom I didn’t even know before. As I don’t write about stuff I didn’t like (mildly put) on the blog, let’s just move on to Missoni’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection.

Missoni F/W 10

The models walked in to a music which was really up-beat and just made me happy. They kind of looked like tribal warriors with adorned necks and dark lips, wrapped in big slouchy coats. Of course the patchwork knit dresses, cropped tops and pinned skirts where also part of the collection with interesting zipper details. You can watch the entire collection in this video.

Afterwards I also stopped by at the Kostume No 3 fashion show, which got so much bigger since their first a year ago (see the post of Kostume No 1). I suppose there’ll be pictures of it on Fashion Bits and Bobs soon!

I definitely got my need for fashion satisfied for some time and look forward to doing things which don’t have anything to do with this surreal world. Having said this, I wish you a wonderful Sunday. I’m going to spend mine studying and baking cookies. ^^

Annabelle Award 2010

Camie Rebord is the winner of this year's annabelle award, which gives young Swiss fashion designers a singular opportunity to intern with an established fashion house. This year the duo from Kaviar Gauche offers a traineeship in Berlin. Camie Rebord won out over four other finalists: Vanessa Meister Varma, Julia Klein-Klute, Silvano Vitalini and Sonja Brajinovic.

Announcement of the winner.
Camie Rebord's trademark: dainty flower motifs on transparent fabric. I think she fits perfectly into the Kaviar Gauche team.

Kaviar Gauche was founded in 2003 by Alexandra Fischer-Roehler and Johanna Kühl. Their Bridal Couture shown yesterday on the runway really impressed me not to mention their ready-to-wear collections. Kaviar Gauche mixes avant-garde elements with feminine lines and they know exactly how to leverage accessories. Have a look at their collections here!

The models went down the runway flawlessly to the music of Rammstein.
Kaviar Gauche embodies this kind of contradiction like the name itself.

Charles Vögele Fashion Days Zurich: Swiss Textiles Award 2010

Since I probably won’t ever be able to attend all the fashion weeks existing, going to the Swiss Textiles Award was like getting a glimpse of New York, London, Paris and Seoul fashion weeks all in one. Yesterday the six finalists, Adam Kimmel (USA), Damir Doma (Croatia), Duro Olowu (UK), Jason Wu (USA), Juun.J (Korea) and Mary Katrantzou (Greece) showed their S/S 11 collections in Zurich and the jury members choose Mary Katrantzou as the winner, who got to take home a prize worth 100’000 Euros.

Duro Olowu S/S 11

The thing that surprised me the most was that Duro Olowu is a self taught fashion designer. Born in Nigeria, he used to work as a lawyer after studying Law in London. But even at an early age he was inspired by the unexpected mix of fabrics, textures and draping techniques of the clothing worn by the women surrounding him. So he gave up his legal career and moved back to London to pursue his true vocation.

Juun.J S/S 11

I was really immersed in Juun.J’s collection which can be considered adventurous and innovative but also wearable at the same time! Prior to the show they showed a little video about each designer and I remember JuunJ. saying that clothes look better when they’re moving and indeed they did.

Mary Katrantzou S/S 11

Mary Katrantzou, the winner of the 11th Swiss Textiles Award, came up with a brilliant concept for her spring line. Inspired by the photography of Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin, where the interiors in the pictures were just as important as the models, she put the room on the woman, rather than the woman in the room! Each piece she created was a masterpiece of art.

Jason Wu S/S 11

While I still have problems sewing on a button, Jason Wu was only 9 years old when he began learning how to sew and now at 27 he’s extremely successful in the industry. I really liked his spring line consisting of ladylike dresses, see-through striped knits and long jackets.

Damir Doma S/S 11

Damir Doma says he practically grew up in his parents atelier and wants to design clothes that adapt to the body rather than the opposite. His mostly dark collection was brightened up by saffron yellows.

Adam Kimmel S/S 11

Never would I have imagined to witness a fashion show that was inspired by Snoop Dogg’s swagger but that was exactly what Adam Kimmel’s collection was about: relaxed and elegant menswear with a a gangster-like touch. Although it’s hard for me to see Snoop as a fashion icon, Kimmel got a raging applause from the audience and also put a grin onto my face.

Alexander Wang S/S 11

Alexander Wang, the winner of last years Swiss Textiles Award, said that he invested some of the prize he won in better and more luxurious fabrics for his S/S 11 collection, which concluded this multi-faceted evening.

Charles Vögele Fashion Days Zurich 2010: Upcoming Swiss Designers

Yesterday was the opening night of the first Zurich Fashion Days ever. Our charming little big town is attracting lots of fashion interested people from all around the world and we wouldn’t want to miss this event either. This noon I attended the upcoming Swiss designers shows and below are pictures and some information about these emerging talents.

Sabine Portenier and Evelyne Roth, the two designers behind the label PORTENIERROTH, do not have a proper store where you could buy their creations but instead they regularly host an innovative sale called „The flying fashion store“.

Redley Exantus was born in New York and worked for two years at Calvin Klein. These days she lives and works in Geneva. Her collections are modern and functional at the same time: a mix of American Ready to Wear and European classic. The designer herself says: „My designs are a marriage between a technically functioning design and a sensual aesthetic with movement in the clothes.“

Aleksandra Wisniewska is originally from the french speaking part of Switzerland and gained experience by doing an internship at Chloé during her studies in Paris. So far she won many awards with her collections, which give the elegant and self confident woman a touch of extravagance.

The collection Aluar Balagan of the two creative minds Laura Lazura and Raul Egloff Alcaide tells the story of today’s man: a sensitive and intellectual warrior. Raul Egloff Alcaide did some stages at Giles Deacon, Balmain and Lanvin and creates his collection in Zurich with Laura Lazura, who is the founder and creative director of the Menswear & Style gallery Fashionslave in Zurich.

As the name of the label suggests, there is a mother-daughter duo joining forces to create the line of Toujours Toi – Family Affairs. The success story of this label started with the jewelry collections of Nina Egli and later she got her mother Kaya on board and together they expanded the Toujours Toi label with Family Affairs. The first four looks below are from the F/W 10 collection called Moon River and the last look from their breezy and floral S/S 11 collection.

Milan Fashion Week SS 2011

Dolce & Gabbana

Antonio Berardi

When I saw these looks above from the Milan Fashion Week, I got all excited. BIG earrings unfortunately didn't find that often their way to the runway. I love how the giant earrings from the Antonio Berardi show stand out without blinding out the clothes, make up or shoes!

Istanbul Fashion Week: Day 5 Koton Beachwear

I wasn't familiar with the brand Koton until last year when I attended their fashion show which showcased their collaboration with Hakan Yildirim. I' found out that they have many stores outside of Turkey as well and are comparable to H&M or Mango with their ability to catch on quick to trends.

This time around I was invited to see their beachwear collection. It created a huge buzz beforehand because Victoria's Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio was announced to be on the catwalk. In fact she opened and closed the show and finished thereby the last show of the fashion week.

There were lots of bikinis with interesting straps, one-pieces with original shoulder details and flowy, long cover-ups.

Istanbul Fashion Week: Day 5 Özlem Süer

Özlem Süer’s show was held at a beautiful location in the early evening that suited very much the collection we were presented. On the Maiden’s Tower, which is located in the Marmara Sea between Europe and Asia, a very decadent atmosphere awaited us.

Before the catwalk show we had a chance to see all the models together, who wore creations that would have pleased Marie Antoinette very much. But not just her, even I, who normallywouldn’t be attracted to such girly attire and rococo inspired setting, was mesmerized by the sight of them!

I'm sure this dress would have enchanted my soon-to-be-bride friend Leyla as well!
